IMPULSE

IMPULSE, A documentary film created by Luc Bellon, is an insight into Bred in the Bone’s development of ’21 Windmills’ – a telling of Cervantes’ Don Quixote through the bodies of the ensemble and the words of Shakespeare. A gift to the company directed, shot and edited by award winning documentary maker Luc Bellon (‘Sur les paves’, ‘l’Altai’), Impulse follows the work of the company from actor training to performance-making during Summer 2013 in Shoreham, Kent. Having worked on this piece since 2009, the company premiered ‘21 Windmills’ shortly after this filming with an international team of 12, from Poland, Iceland, Japan, UK, Greece, Spain, Mexico, Germany, Israel, Ireland and France.

The film gives a detailed, co-ordinated and immersive insight into the rehearsal processes of Bred in the Bone, drawing attention to our training in musicality and emotion-action, to our deep roots in ensemble-based theatre practice, and to our long-term practical research into the unity of movement and text. Luc gives an intimate, sensitive and extraordinary account of the workings of the company, capturing both the passions and the doubts and identifying a relentless quest for the ‘impossible dream’ that has formed the theatre of Bred in the Bone for the last 10 years.
